Shereese was right. I did have a lot of my mind. But speaking to her about it had had its advantages. For one, I was beginning to think it wasn’t so crazy after all. I began to become more aware of the handcuffs that hung from my uniform buckle — and what other uses they might have.

On a dare, I might have even admitted that the thought of being handcuffed and used by a man would be exhilarating — the same way riding a rollercoaster could be.

But then Thomas returned. He was so quiet I did not notice his presence until he cleared his throat politely. When I looked up, he was straightening his suit coat with those long, seductive-looking fingers of his.

“We meet again,” I said, not trying to hide my irritation.

“Yes, we do.” Thomas analyzed me with his cold, blue eyes. “It’s the handcuffs. I’m afraid I’ve broken them.”

Jesus. What kind of sex life does this man have?

“Great. Why don’t you take it up with the Lieutenant?” I asked dismissively. Hopefully this handsome creep would get the message.

“No,” he said stoically, “I think I’d rather take it up with you.”

I place my pen down dramatically. I raised my eyes to his and stared him down. I stood up, huffing.

“Look, I don’t know who you think you are, but my friend told me she knew all about — ”

“Thomas. My name is Thomas Valentine.”

My jaw worked furiously, yet no words came out. I was used to being interrupted, but not by someone so coy.

“Well, I’m Jill Kennedy, and I don’t appreciate you coming in —“

“So very pleased to meet you, Jill Kennedy. I will require your handcuffs,” he said, in that same calm and composed tone that made my heart rate rise. I leaned across my desk, trying to get as close as possible while I glared at him.

“Thomas, my handcuffs stay with me. Unlike some people, I take my job very seriously.”

He leaned in himself. As the space between us grew smaller, I felt a sort of electricity in the air. Its current ran through my body and threatened to make my legs quiver. I had been wrong about so many things, yet I was right about one:

This man was dangerous for women to be around.

He captivated. He hypnotized. He worked some kind of black magic that reached inside me and twisted my desires into something I couldn’t recognize.

Worst of all, he made me love it.

“Well, Jill, I guess you and your handcuffs will just have to come with me,” he commanded quietly. I was enraptured by his every word. And when he left, I followed.

An officer abandoning her post.

“You know, I think you would look rather nice handcuffed to my bed in that uniform you are wearing,” he said as he walked me to his car.

I scoffed. “You aren’t going to handcuff anybody to your bed.
